Concrete Orkidz

COMMUNITIES OF THE FUTURE

Concrete Orkidz recognizes the power and influence which the programs provide for youth who participate in after-school programs for three hours a day, five days a week.  Youth programs are often the best option during the critical after-school hours and summertime.  There are encouraging studies about the positive benefits of youth development derived from After-School and Youth Summer Programs.

Throughout the State of Ohio, approximately 920,000 youth are in a single parent-household which emphasizes the necessity for After-School Programs.  In the majority of these households, the youth are coming home to an ‘empty’ home, as their parent is still at work.  The trend in Ohio is declining for two-parent households and increasing for single-parent homes.

It is the intention of Concrete Orkidz Foundation to identify additional economically disadvantaged communities—and launch After-School Programs, which are so desperately needed.

In Ohio–Franklin, Cuyahoga, and Hamilton counties have the largest concentration of youth.  All youth deserve the opportunity to receive year-round support and encouragement, to enable them to close the achievement gap.  What is important to recognize is the significant need to reach youth—who are yet to be served.
